Summary The holidays are promoted as one of the most wonderful times of the year. However, poorly managed holiday stress, combined with ongoing family problems, unhealthy behaviors, and mental health conditions, can make this time of year less than wonderful. In fact, a 2018 survey by the American Psychological Association reported 38% of people feel their stress levels increase during the holidays. In this webinar, mental health professionals will be able to further identify the common causes of holiday stress and the impact of stress on their clients. Finally, Dr. Mintle will discuss coping methods, prevention strategies, and ways to find joy and contentment with clients.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
- Summarize common causes, risk factors, and signs of holiday stress, anxiety, depression, and loss
- Discuss mental health conditions and family issues that tend to exacerbate during the holidays and apply evidence-based approaches to intervene
- Develop preventative and coping strategies to help clients enjoy the holidays and minimize stress
- Identify sources of joy and ways to improve contentment over the holidays
