If unaddressed, childhood and adolescent anxiety can have a lasting, negative impact on
students?۪ social and emotional development, academic success, and college/career readiness.
School counselors play an integral role in addressing students?۪ mental health needs. Through
evidence-based interventions, school counselors can effectively promote the skills and attitudes
necessary to cope with, and even overcome, childhood anxiety disorders.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
- Identify at least four forms of anxiety in children and adolescents, including the signs and symptoms often displayed in the school setting
- Analyze appropriate counseling interventions and theories that are effective in reducing childhood anxiety
- Explore strategies used to appropriately integrate school counseling interventions into the comprehensive school counseling program, with the scope of the school counselor, ethical considerations, and Christian values in mind
