Summary
The uniqueness of Christian counselors helping Christian clients is that both are children of God, which means their souls are in union with God. Given that God is omnipresent, there is a role that only He can play in the therapeutic process. In every counseling session, there are always three parties present, and the key to resolving personal and spiritual conflicts is to have a clear understanding of who is responsible for what. Usurping God’s role or ignoring His presence will be ineffective. Only God can set a captive free and heal the wounds of the brokenhearted. Effective Christian counseling must have a biblical worldview that takes into account the reality of the spiritual world. “The whole world lies in the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19), and he “deceives the whole world” (Revelations 12:9). The Spirit of truth (John 14:17) will guide us into all truth, which sets us free.
