Summary
A sports team doesn’t do well when they are all doing their own thing; the same is true with a mental health treatment team. When a client has a mental health issue, they need a team of people around them working together to ensure that they are receiving the best care. In this workshop, psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, medical professionals, and ministry leaders will all be able to identify key players on the treatment team for both adult and youth clients and what their designated duties could or should be. Each participant will also be able to describe the ethical issues in working with a mental health team and various strategies to ensure that confidentiality, continuity, and care are improved and not negatively impacted by the number and variety of providers involved in the case. Furthermore, participants will be given principles for effective collaboration among the treatment team and case studies to apply the various strategies the presenter has shown throughout the workshop.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
- Identify key players on a client’s treatment team and the duties of each within the treatment team.
- Describe the various ethical challenges and opportunities in working with a collaborative treatment team.
- Apply various strategies for ethical or collaboration issues that could arise on a adult or youth client’s treatment team.
- Outline specifics on the safe practices of passing or sharing medical and mental health information and/or records among team members.
