Job Summary: Licensed Mental Health Professional (Therapist) will provide weekly individual
sessions, facilitate group counseling, and conduct family therapy sessions. The Therapist will
maintain a caseload of 9 young men who are between 12 and 16 years old and in partnership with
the Program Director, help create and maintain a therapeutic milieu which enhances a safe, healthy,
and growth-focused learning environment for our young men and their families.


Duties and Responsibilities


Therapy Responsibilities

  • Individual therapy:
    o Develop ICSP (Individual Crisis Support Plan) for each resident within two weeks of
    enrollment, make regular updates, and communicate ICSP to employees.
    o Identify areas of growth for each resident within two weeks of enrollment.
    o Develop IGP (Individual Growth Plan) within one month of enrollment.
    o Complete session, session notes, and additional documentation in a timely manner.
    o Prepare any and all insurance forms required for parents to file with insurance.
  • Group Therapy: Collaborate with the Program Director and Headmaster to design and
    implement a rotation of bi-weekly sessions.
  • Family Therapy:
    o Complete weekly phone calls with parents to discuss progress, provide consultation,
    and prepare parents for family intensive and, eventually, their son’s return home.
    o Provide one 2-day family intensive with each resident prior to graduation.
  • Aftercare:
    o Develop and communicate a clear and achievable game plan with specific
    recommendations for resident and his parents prior to graduation.
    o Respond to previous resident and resident family needs time and resources allow,
    within reason.

Administrative Responsibilities

Weekly Staff Meeting: Provide detailed updates of each resident to staff, in addition to
preparing document with these updates in an email to all staff.

  • Prepare any and all insurance forms required for parents to file insurance within
    established time frame, when applicable.
  • Share on-call responsibilities with Program Director, House Manager, and Executive
    Director, to provide guidance to evening and weekend staff for handling irregular crisis
    situations.
  • Meet weekly with the Program Director for supervision.
  • Counseling License Supervision: (if applicable)
    o Submit all required paperwork in a timely manner to supervisor.
    o Whetstone will pay for supervision; Transportation and other expenses are the
    Therapist’s responsibility
  • Continuing Education: Whetstone will pay for training needed to cover CEU’s.

Weekly Hourly Breakdown Expectations

  • Therapy Sessions and Notes: 20 hours
  • Family Calls: 10 hours
  • Group Therapy: 3 hours
  • Employment Supervision: 2 hours
  • Staff Meeting: 2 hours
  • Chapel: 2 hours
  • Aftercare Responsibilities: 5 hours
  • Licensure Supervision (If Applicable): 1 hour

Job Requirements

Specific Credentials Required & Expectations

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and
    Family Therapy, Psychology or related field.
  • Current, in good-standing license for State of Missouri or eligible for licensure in State of
    Missouri.
  • If provisionally licensed, must have approved supervisor for State of Missouri and be active
    in working toward full licensure.
  • Attendance of professional conferences as a representative of Whetstone Boys Ranch, as
    needed or as required by Program Director or Executive Director.

Employment Requirements

  • Valid Missouri Driver’s License.
  • State-specific Central Registry Child Abuse Clearance.
  • Adherence to WBR Mission, Vision, and Statement of Values.
  • Compliance to WBR Policy and Employee Manuals.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $46,000 (Masters, no licensure), $48,000(Masters & Prov. License), $50,000
    (full licensure).
  • Health Insurance Stipend: additional $300 per month.
  • Cost of Licensure Supervision and CEU’s paid for as needed.
  • 3 weeks annual vacation leave.
  • 8 paid Holidays.
  • 6 sick days.

  • Extensive training in applicable certifications and continuing education.
