Abstract

Christian counselors face increasing challenges working with clients and agencies whose values and beliefs differ from a biblical perspective. Further, ethical practice and decisionmaking are guided by professional codes of ethics that are increasingly interpreted from a secular perspective, creating additional pressures for practitioners in navigating deeply held beliefs and convictions in their work. In this Webinar, Christian counselors and clinicians will learn about models for integrating faith and practice and understand and apply an ethical framework and understanding of moral foundations, worldview, and theories of change to their practices. Also, participants will learn how they can be passionately committed to Christ, the authority of the Bible, and the truth of the Christian faith while ethically integrating faith and a biblical worldview in practice.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Understand important epistemological foundations to moral and ethical frameworks vital for ethical decision making
  2. Understand the importance of worldview and components of worldview assessment when working with clients, the integration of faith in practice, and how to apply worldview questions and assessment to evaluating theories of change while engaging clients in conversations about values and beliefs that impact their outcomes
  3. Learn about models for faith integration and a biblical view of faith integration for Christian clinicians
  4. Understand and learn skills for integrating faith and practice to avoid concerns of imposing values on clients
  5. Understand the differences in ethical approaches rooted in truth and deontological frameworks, and learn social constructionist strategies and implications for practice and ethical decision making
