Mark McMinn, Ph.D., is Scholar-in-Residence in the George Fox University Graduate School of Clinical Psychology. Dr. McMinn is a fellow and former president of APA’s Division 36 and is board certified in clinical psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology. He has authored several books, including his latest, Embodying Integration: A Fresh Look at Christianity in the Therapy Room, which he co-authored with his daughter, Megan Anna Neff. 

Summary 

Most traditional models of integrating counseling, psychology, and Christianity for Christian clients are built on premises that do not always hold up well in a postmodern era. Most traditional integration models are built on modern premises; however, mental health professionals entering the field today grew up in a world influenced by postmodernity, so they have increased comfort in holding multiple perspectives and viewing knowledge through a contextual frame. We need a fresh approach to integration because we have a new generation of mental health professionals and clients asking tough questions. In this Webinar, Dr. McMinn will address some of the challenging quandaries and complexities of Christian counseling and show the opportunities this brings for transformed, relational spaces in the mental health field. This workshop will evaluate multiple models of integration and describe a new form of integration using a more conversational approach. Dr. McMinn will then explain how this conversational approach to can be used with Christian clients. 

Learning Objectives 

Participants will: 

1. Evaluate the longstanding models of integration of counseling, psychology, and Christianity for Christian clients by describing how they may be perceived and critiqued by younger professionals entering the workforce 
2. Describe a conversational approach to integration that involves a fresh look at pressing quandaries and questions 
3. Develop a conversational approach to integration for a Christian client that can transform the work Christians do in the mental health profession
