CE Statement

Summary

In the practice of counseling and psychotherapy, countertransference is a common phenomenon where therapists unconsciously project their own feelings, biases, and emotional responses onto their clients. In multicultural settings, countertransference becomes more complex, as cultural values, biases, and assumptions can further influence these responses. This webinar will explore the dynamics of countertransference in a multicultural context, focusing on how therapists can recognize, understand, and manage their own cultural biases to enhance therapeutic effectiveness. Through case studies, interactive discussions, and practical strategies, participants will gain insights into fostering cultural competence and mitigating the potential impacts of countertransference in diverse client relationships.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Identify and Define countertransference and understand how cultural factors can influence therapist-client interactions.
  2. Analyze the potential challenges of countertransference when working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, focusing on common biases and assumptions.
  3. Develop effective strategies for managing countertransference in a way that respects and acknowledges cultural differences, promoting more inclusive and effective therapeutic outcomes.
