The Leadership and Trauma Cycle: Assessing and Treating Integrity Gaps

Tuesday, November 14, 2023

6:00 – 8:00 PM ET

Webinar Presenter

Jeff Mattson (MA ORL) and Terra Mattson (MA LPC, LMFT) are the married co-founders of Living Wholehearted, a professional counseling and organizational development firm, as well as the global Courageous Girls movement, a free online curriculum equipping moms for every stage of their daughter’s growing years. Terra is the author of Courageous: Being Daughters Rooted in Grace and together they co-authored Shrinking the Integrity Gap: Between what Leaders Preach and Live. After two decades in leadership and trauma-informed therapy, they are bridging the gap between Biblical, clinical, and relational wisdom to help leaders live with integrity in the home, work, and community. As the co-hosts of the Living Wholehearted Podcast. Jeff and Terra have skin in the game as they are working to close their own integrity gaps as they raise their two daughters just outside Portland, OR on five acres of old growth woods. It’s never dull in the Mattson home!

Abstract

Leaders are often the last to come to mind when one thinks about trauma. After 20 years of groundbreaking research, counseling, and consulting, the presenters have found a common thread among high-capacity leaders—most have unresolved childhood trauma that eventually runs interference if not addressed. Sadly, this causes a disconnect between a leader’s public and private life, impacting the fabric of the entire family, church, and society. In this workshop, the presenters will explore the 10 most common symptoms leaders face, such as narcissism, isolation, and compartmentalization. This workshop will integrate the latest insights from neuroscience, trauma research, leadership development, and spiritual formation. It will provide a clear roadmap for ministry leaders and coaches to develop their clients’ inner lives as their influence grows. Whether one is an executive coach or pastor working with leaders, learning how to assess and treat the leadership and trauma cycle is vital to bringing about long-term healing in this and the next generations.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Discuss and explore the unique challenges leaders face in today’s culture focused on performance, fame, and followers over character and competency
  2. Identify the top 10 most common symptoms of an integrity gap and discuss strategies to move a leader from compartmentalized to integrated, nurturing systemic changes in both their lives and the lives of those they lead
  3. Identify trauma recovery tools for assessing and treating integrity gaps to help leaders live with overall greater wholeness and integrity
