Description

Counseling from a Christian psychology perspective means we must base the assumptions of
the therapeutic models we use on a foundation of biblical truth. A need also exists for correctly
defining the role of the Holy Spirit in the therapeutic process. In this workshop, participants will
be introduced to a modified version of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) called the Soul
Change Model (SCM). This model modifies the basic assumptions of CBT from a humanist
worldview to a biblical worldview. The theory of change in the SCM includes the role of the
Holy Spirit and places the roles of the client and therapist into collaborative roles. At the end of
the workshop, participants will have a working knowledge of the Soul Change Model. Those
with previous CBT experience will be able to immediately apply the SCM to therapy. The use of
Christian disciplines within the therapeutic process of a Christian psychology model will also be
highlighted.
