Description
According to the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program?۪s annual Hate Crime Statistics report,
incidents of hate crimes increased by approximately 17% in 2017 when compared to 2016. This
workshop will review the definition of race-based trauma and discuss how this type of trauma
may often lead to individuals experiencing race-based traumatic stress. Workshop attendees
will discuss the complexities of two, race-based traumatic events (i.e., Charleston massacre and
shooting at the Tree of Life Congregation Synagogue). Steps designed to assist clergy members
and clinicians help those affected by race-based trauma will be explored.
