Description
In this workshop, the presenters will create a blueprint discussing how to equip congregations
to approach the two, primary faces of trauma: both the singular event, as well as long-term
exposure to abuse. Psychological First Aid (PFA) is efficacious and the need for PFA training has
been well documented. Teaching Christian congregations to administer PFA addresses a critical
part of the blueprint. Drawing from prior experiences with small, large, and international
congregations, this session will offer practical skills in PFA training. Trauma, however, is rarely
resolved quickly; PFA is the essential beginning, but we must be in it for the long haul. This
workshop will also provide practical skills for walking alongside trauma survivors as they
journey toward healing and wholeness.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
- Discuss the myths that surround helping Christians in psychological distress and identify the key skills congregants must have to administer psychological first aid
- Explore barriers to recovery from long-term trauma (typically childhood and sexual abuses)
- Be able to develop and evaluate individualized guidelines to shape a plan that protects, connects, and offers a survivor ongoing support
