Each stage of life triggers common anxious reactions. Thus, Christian counselors must be
prepared to effectively assist clients with addressing these reactions. Erikson’s (1959) stages of
psychosocial development provide us with a model through which to view normal human
development across the lifespan. With that as a backdrop, this engaging presentation also
draws on Adlerian, narrative, and existential theories to help counselors conceptualize and
address anxiety across the lifespan. Participants will come away with an overview of theory and
examples of practical, age-appropriate interventions for clients who are dealing with anxiety.
