Helping Children With Anxiety Through Brainspotting and Sand Therapy: Calming the Storm Within

Thursday, January 22, 2026

6:00 – 8:30 PM ET

Level: Beginner

Presenter: Davi Stein-Kiley is a Brainspotting Consultant and Specialized Brainspotting Child and Adolescent Consultant who has conducted research on the effectiveness of a specific intervention for children experiencing anxiety symptoms. This webinar will present her findings and examine how children respond and develop through the intervention studied. The first hour will cover foundational aspects of Brainspotting along with Stein-Kiley’s 2024 research. The second hour will feature case study examples that illuminate the details of this specialized approach.

Summary: When anxious children come to counseling, their nervous systems may resemble turbulent weather: gloomy days, sudden shifts in mood, irritability, strong emotions, and difficulty regulating themselves. Simple tasks can feel overwhelming, making their daily struggles seem like relentless storms. For over 15% of young people, coping with the demands of tough environments and the normal challenges of growing up is simply too much. It’s essential for Christian Counselors to intervene. Although research shows that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can help children, many kids—especially after COVID—face communication difficulties that make traditional approaches less successful. Sand therapy and Brainspotting, on the other hand, creates a safe space for expression, encourages new skills, and brings joy through engaging activities. As children reshape their neural patterns by playing, they develop healthier nervous systems that are crucial for growth and adapting to life.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn and describe the key elements of Brainspotting, the NEM (Neuroexperiential Model)
  2. Discuss three outcomes from Stein-Kiley 2024 research related to Brainspotting and Sand Therapy
  3. View sand trays and hear descriptions of the processes related to assisting children through BSP and ST.
  4. Explain the training, education and experience required to ethically practice Brainspotting and ST with clientele.
