Summary:

During a crisis moment, it can be difficult to think through the do’s and do not’s of the moment, but when it comes to suicide ideation, attempts, or completions, licensed mental health professionals and ministry leaders need to be aware of the ethical guidelines they must follow. In this workshop, participants will be presented case studies of suicide ideations, attempts, and completions to demonstrate the ethical steps a participant should take when these actions occur. In this workshop, participants will be able to describe the processes of notification, referral, and documentation for these serious incidents. Furthermore, the trainers will encourage proper consultation and self-care after these types of actions within a participant’s caseload.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

1. Describe the steps for notification, referral and documentation during suicide ideation, attempt, and completion.

2. Apply these steps to case studies presented in the session.

3. Outline various consultation and self-care needed for the clinician after these actions occur.
