Summary
What lies in the shadow of the abortion debate are the women and men suffering silently from the aftereffects of abortion. This workshop will address the emerging trauma concerns related to chemical abortion (RU-486), articulate key vulnerabilities before and after abortion, and discuss ways to integrate trauma-informed abortion care practices to clients, staff, organizational settings, and congregations. In this session, attendees will be better equipped and informed to treat an underserved, and often under-acknowledged, population.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
• Identify risk factors related to abortion with a special emphasis on chemical abortions (RU-486)
• Examine interpersonal and intrapersonal impact after abortion and ways for licensed mental health professionals to facilitate healing
• Define and explore betrayal trauma as it relates to abortion and the client’s need to reconcile the “injustice gap”
