Summary
One in three women will be sexually exploited before the age of 20, resulting in alterations to normal brain development, genetic expression, sexual intimacy, and relationships, which often contribute to lifelong coping difficulties and personality disorders. In this workshop, mental health professionals will learn how sexual trauma impacts the entire person and acquire interventions to bring healing.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
• Describe the psychological and physiological impact of childhood abuse
• Examine the relationship between abuse, the body’s stress response, and the subsequent impact on brain and body health
• Develop a holistic intervention strategy to treat individuals with mental health problems stemming from abuse
