Kevin Hull, Ph.D.

Lynchburg, VA 24515

Summary
The neurodevelopmental challenges for those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are many. While many counseling approaches focus on the cognitive, emotional, and social areas of ASD, there is little emphasis on faith development in these young people. This presentation will focus on counseling techniques specifically related to faith development, in addition to sharing a case study in which faith was developed and maintained throughout key developmental stages.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
• Identify the neurodevelopmental challenges of ASD and how these challenges impede faith development
• Name and describe counseling techniques for licensed mental health professionals that are effective in faith development for young people diagnosed with ASD
• Apply strategies to help parents/caregivers assist in faith development in their child/adolescent diagnosed with ASD
