Description: Charleston Southern University (CSU) seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Counselor Education to start June 1st, 2022. The candidate will also fill the role of Program Director for the Master of Science in Clinical Counseling Program. This is a 12-month position. Ideal applicants have a passion for teaching future counselors and can relate their experience within the clinical counseling field to students. The new hire would be part of the core clinical faculty per CACREP accreditation requirements and serve as the Academic Unit Leader for Counselor Education.
Responsibilities: Teach 24 semester hours of counseling classes per year (Fall (9hrs)/Spring (9hrs)/Summer (6hrs); synchronous-online and in-person, including didactic and clinical classes (one course release per semester for director role).
The Program Director’s responsibilities include:
- Supervision and oversite of the Clinical Counseling MS degree program, including responding to inquiries regarding the overall academic unit
- Overseeing curriculum development and semester schedules, including adjunct program needs
- Providing input and making recommendations regarding the development of and expenditures from the budget
- Oversight of the admissions process, including new student recruitment and interviews,
- Participating in appropriate program, school, and university activities such as program information sessions, admissions processes, and workshops
- Assist in occasional school and university recruitment activities
- Serving on committees, such as Academic Council & Graduate Council
- Academic advisement
- Oversight of CACREP accreditation requirements in coordination with the CACREP Liaison
- Leading the CACREP Core faculty in decision-making, creation and implementation of program objectives, student remediation plans/discipline issues, and program management/evaluation.
Qualifications: Both a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program and a desire to integrate faith with counselor education. Ideal applicants will have administrative experience in oversight and coordination of a counseling program and identification with the counseling profession through membership in professional organizations (i.e., ACA, ACES, and/or its divisions). Ideal candidates will have a deep knowledge of 1) principles, methods and current developments of counselor education and clinical supervision for counseling students, and 2) instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to teaching the courses assigned (graduate, adult learners, in person/online, etc). This candidate must be a believer of the Christian faith and share CSU’s mission of integrative faith in learning, leading, and serving. Evidence of scholarly activities related to clinical counseling and counseling training is strongly desired. Candidates should be eligible for licensure as a Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of South Carolina, and if hired, must complete licensure application prior to position start date.
*CSU is planning to submit an application for accreditation with CACREP for Masters in Science for Clinical Mental Health Counseling during the next academic year.
