Summary
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is sweeping the world, continuously demonstrating effective and relatively quick healing from past trauma. However, experienced clinicians, especially from the Christian community, have been guarded and protective, wondering how this modality works and if it is safe to use. Drs. Ray and Julie Hayden will share their experience as Christian psychologists, academic leaders, business owners, and clinical supervisors learning and implementing this impressive modality into their various organizations. They will give an overview of the biological components of EMDR, how it works, the research behind it, the impact it had on their organization, and the goals for the future of a biblical EMDR.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
• Name and describe the main components of EMDR therapy, how it works, and what research demonstrates
• Identify the biblical foundation of EMDR and list three biblical supports for EMDR therapy
• Explore the risks and benefits of EMDR therapy for the psychologist or licensed mental health professional when working with Christian clients
