Description
This workshop will discuss today?۪s key legal and ethical issues relevant to church-based
counseling ministry. The AACC 2014 Code of Ethics will be highlighted in presenting relevant
ethical issues. ???Best practices? guidelines will be considered for church-based counseling
ministry issues, including: 1) lay counselor selection, training and supervision; 2) confidentiality;
3) guarding against sexual misconduct; 4) informed consent for various counseling situations; 5)
regulatory compliance; 6) technology use; and 7) general organizational issues.

Participants will:
- Review key legal and ethical issues relevant to church-based counseling programs
- Identity and apply, through case review, the 2014 AACC Code of Ethics to common ethical issues in church-based counseling programs
- Be able to develop policies and procedures for church-based counseling ministry based on “best practices” guidelines
