Summary
This workshop will focus on post-traumatic growth and the hope that is available to both a sexual addict and a betrayed spouse/partner when we help clients find purpose in their pain. Focusing on stopping infidelity behaviors at the beginning of a recovery journey will reduce pain for both persons. However, allowing the trauma of an addiction or betrayal to lead to transformation, “to become the person God called you to be,” is the hope of post-traumatic growth and God’s truth (Js. 1:2-4). It is imperative as professional counselors to give Christian clients this hope.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
• Describe how isolation and shame are our greatest enemies of well-being
• Predict that stopping something (behavior) or elapse of time does not necessarily lead to growth in sessions with a licensed mental health professional
• Recognize post-traumatic growth that can create a stronger individual, have richer relationships, a deeper spiritual journey, changed priorities, and new opportunities despite experiencing trauma
