Summary
The Church has a history of showing radical love in times of crisis. Perhaps this is why people often turn first to faith communities when seeking help with mental illness. With this history and our mission as the body of Christ comes a unique responsibility to respond to people with mental illness in loving and helpful ways. And in these stressful times, we are surrounded by opportunities to care. This workshop will help you evaluate and discuss the Church’s unique position in your community and the responsibility that comes with it. It will highlight multiple ideas to help you formulate a helpful response.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
• Assess the Church’s historical response to social crisis and apply that legacy to this cultural moment with coaches and pastoral counselors on the front lines of mental healthcare in a time of crisis
• Analyze how the Church’s assets can alleviate the suffering of individuals and families affected by mental illness
• Discuss specific ways people in church ministries can respond to the needs of individuals and families affected by mental illness
