Summary
This presentation serves as an “abuse prevention course” for mental health professionals and pastors as reflected in ESI-220 of the AACC Code of Ethics. Topics prioritized include basic microskills, grief, systemic theory and application, proper use of referral, building relationships with other professionals, and most importantly, how to apply best practices when treating suicide ideation and trauma. In addition, these concepts will be applied to treating Christian clients.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
• Define specific counseling microskills and techniques used by licensed mental health professionals, coaches, and pastoral counselors to best serve varied populations with the highest ethical standards
• Differentiate individual counseling techniques from best practice in systemic approaches with couples and families
• Develop a thorough, ethical suicide assessment and researched trauma care when working with individuals in ministry and clinical settings
